Patron Photo Booths

The marketing director at the Gallagher Bluedorn wanted to create a patron interaction photo booth that would be used at festivals as a way to promote our venue and shows.
360 Booth
The first booth created we called a 360 booth. It was essentially a bullet camera rig. 24 cameras were arranged in a circle around the patron. All the cameras were connected to individual Raspberry Pi computers. When triggered the cameras would capture a photo at the same time, transmit that photo back to a central processing server and stitch them into a video, then email the final video to the patron. The entire process to capture and process a photo took less than a minute.
Slow Mo Booth
A few years after the 360 booth we decided to create a new slow motion booth. For this booth I designed a system that mounted a small camera on the end of a 6 ft arm. The arm would swing in an arch in front of a patron capturing video. A section of the video was automatically slowed down, intro and outro clips were added and the final video was rendered out. The challenge for this project was finding a way to swing the arm approximately 120 degrees quickly, safely, and in a way that was portable. To solve this a pneumatic cylinder was attached to the pivoting arm. The pneumatics were controlled by a microcontroller and synchronized with the camera.
Custom software was developed for both projects to control and monitor the status of the system.
